Goodwin University Receives Southern Connecticut Gas Grant to Support Energy Efficiency
Funding Made available under Connecticut's Neighborhood Assistance Act tax credit program
East Hartford, CT (01/19/2021) — On December 17, 2020, Goodwin University received notification that it had received a $9,862 grant from Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG) under Connecticut's Neighborhood Assistance Act tax credit program. SCG, United Illuminating (UI), and Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG) - all subsidiaries of AVANGRID, Inc. - distributed a total of $441,540 in grants to 59 organizations. The grants are aimed at helping nonprofit community and neighborhood organizations across the state improve energy efficiency and reduce energy costs.
The funding to Goodwin will be used to purchase and install energy efficient building systems for the University's academic and affiliate buildings. The systems will include new windows, insulated roofing, and HVAC and boiler systems. The funding can also be used to promote energy effectiveness and construction as model projects to support similar efforts in the state.
"We have always kept energy and environmental concerns at the forefront as we developed our riverfront campus," said Bryant Harrell, Goodwin's Vice President for Physical Facilities, IT, and Security. "This grant from SCG not only supports being thoughtful and intentional as we continue to grow, but also provides a great example of environment stewardship to our students."
"As we prepare to celebrate the holidays during these unprecedented times, we are mindful of the many people in our communities who are suffering as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic - and of the important roles nonprofit organizations play in supporting them," said Frank Reynolds, president of UI, SCG and CNG. "This program allows us to help our nonprofit partners achieve ongoing energy savings, allowing our partners to focus their resources on the critical programs and services that they provide."
The 2020 NAA grants support a wide variety of projects undertaken by community organizations. A full listing of the projects supported can be found at NAA tax credit program.
