Goodwin University Golf Tournament Supports Student Scholarships

WFSB's Scot Haney returns as honorary chair

by Philip Moore

East Hartford, CT (08/13/2026) — Goodwin University will host its 21st Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, October 5, 2026, at the Hartford Golf Club in West Hartford, Connecticut. A shotgun start is scheduled for 11 am, and the day includes golf, breakfast, lunch, dinner, complimentary beverages, raffles, and on-course contests. The event supports the Goodwin Foundation Scholarship Fund to assist students with demonstrated financial need as they work toward certificates and degrees in career-focused fields.

This year, WFSB Channel 3's Scot Haney returns as honorary event chair. Haney, who keeps Connecticut updated with the most-accurate weather forecasts especially tailored to the morning commute, can be seen weekdays on Eyewitness News This Morning from 4:30 to 7 am, and "Better Connecticut" weekdays at 3 pm. Known for his warm personality and personal commitment to the local community, he has received the American Red Cross Service Award and My Sister's Place Advocate Award.

"We're delighted to have Scot back as our honorary chair," said Jade Stoltz, DSW, Director of Development for Goodwin. "Not only did he play in last year's tournament, but he also served as host for the evening reception and helped add hundreds of dollars to the live auction, which meant more scholarships for our students. We love having his warmth and positivity in the Goodwin family!"

With nearly $1 million raised for scholarships since its inception, the golf tournament is critical to the Foundation's work to support Goodwin students. "The majority of our learners receive some form of grant or financial assistance," said Megan Girolamo, Foundation board member, event co-chair, and Vice President of Silktown Roofing, Inc. "In turn, their joining the workforce strengthens the economy in Connecticut and throughout the region. This event speaks directly to Goodwin's mission to align education, commerce, and community."

Goodwin University was in the spotlight recently when it was named the #1 college for women in the state of Connecticut and #32 in the nation on Newsweek's America's Best Colleges for Women 2026 ranking - a national recognition that honors institutions supporting women's academic success, access, and long-term outcomes. Goodwin was listed out of more than 1,300 colleges and universities evaluated nationally.

The help afforded to Goodwin students is deeply felt, prompting student Susan Johnson to share, "[The golf tournament scholarship] is more than financial support; it is an investment in people, in dreams, and in the belief that circumstances do not define our destiny. Because of you, I was able to pursue my education, change my path, and create a better future for my family. Please know that your kindness does not just touch lives, it transforms them. Mine is one of them, and I am forever grateful."
