Goodwin University Continues Top Ten Military Designation for 2024-25
Military Friendly Schools recognizes commitment, outreach, support
East Hartford, CT (04/01/2024) — Goodwin University has again received recognition from Military Friendly (MF) Schools for its service to students who are current and veteran members of the military. On the official 2024-2025 list released March 27, Goodwin was honored with two designations: Miliary Friendly Graduate School Top Ten and Military Spouse Friendly School.
Institutions earning the MF designations were evaluated using public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey that included more than 1,800 participating schools. Goodwin, which is about to launch its 25th Anniversary celebration, has invested significant resources and energy into enrollment goals and services for veterans, particularly since the arrival of veteran coordinator Craig Jordan in 2017.
Following military service that included a tour in Vietnam, Jordan embarked on a career in education as a teacher, coach, program leader, assistant principal, and principal of East Hartford High School. At Goodwin, he has increased outreach to community veterans, served on the committee that brought the Fallen Star Memorial to the campus, and been instrumental in opening the University's Veterans OASIS (Operation Academic Support for Incoming Service).
In addition to the OASIS where student veterans can socialize and access technology, Goodwin also provides a full-time VA School Certifying Official in its Registrar's Office, and has implemented a number of initiatives that recognize their achievements throughout the year.
Inclusion on the MF list is based on methodology, criteria, and weightings determined by VIQTORY, a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business that connects the military community to employment, educational, and entrepreneurial opportunities. In addition to the data and survey responses, final ratings reflected the school's ability to meet thresholds for retention, graduation, job placement, repayment, persistence, and loan default rates for all students - specifically student veterans.
"Military Friendly is committed to transparency and providing consistent data-driven standards in our process. This creates a competitive atmosphere that encourages institutions to consistently evolve their programs," offered Kayla Lopez, Director of Military Partnerships for MF. "Award-level schools have gone beyond that standard, showing true commitment and dedication in their efforts. [This] benchmark promotes positive educational outcomes and support services that better the educational landscape and provide opportunity for the military community."
