On Thursday, December 19, 53 new nurses were pinned into their profession after completing their associate degree programs at Goodwin College.

Goodwin College celebrated the achievements of 33 faculty members who have been recognized on our Faculty Achievement Wall for Scholarship, Service, and Teaching Excellence.

Goodwin College neared a milestone this month as about 50 students were pinned as nurses after completing the College's rigorous nursing program. Since Goodwin established its Nursing program eight years ago, 982 students have been pinned as nurses and recited an oath in the tradition of Florence Nightingale. The College expects to pin its 1,000th nurse this Fall upon the next cohort completing the program. Family and friends crowded the Goodwin College Auditorium on August 16 for a special ceremony honoring the nursing graduates. Jan Costello, chair of the Nursing Department, reminded all the grads that they will never be forgotten, and asked that they always be caring and compassionate with their patients.

Goodwin College has named seven students as mentors for the 2012 Summer Bridge Academy, a rigorous six-week program designed to help students make the transition from high school to higher education. Enrollment for Summer Bridge is ongoing. Participating students have the chance to earn up to six college credits in Contemporary Music and Urban Limits. Additionally, students receive instruction in leadership development and both Math and English "Boot Camps" designed to bring their skills to college readiness. Goodwin College runs the program every summer, graduating 45 students during the 2011 program. An overwhelming majority continued on to college.
