Goodwin University Golf Tournament Supports Student Scholarships

WFSB's Scot Haney to serve as honorary event chair

East Hartford, CT (08/14/2025) — Goodwin University has announced plans to host its 20th Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, September 8, at the Hartford Golf Club in West Hartford, Connecticut. A shotgun start is scheduled for 11 am, and the day includes golf, breakfast, lunch, dinner, complimentary beverages, raffles, and on-course contests. The event supports the Goodwin Foundation Scholarship Fund to assist students with demonstrated financial need as they work toward certificates and degrees in career-focused fields.

This year, Goodwin welcomes WFSB Channel 3's Scot Haney, as honorary event chair. Haney, who keeps Connecticut updated with the most-accurate weather forecasts especially tailored to the morning commute, can be seen weekdays on Eyewitness News This Morning from 4:30 to 7 am, and "Better Connecticut" weekdays at 3 pm. Well recognized for his contributions and personal commitment to the local community, he received the 2003 American Red Cross Service Award and was named Best News Personality in Connecticut by The Hartford Advocate for 12 consecutive years.

This signature event is a key component of the Foundation's work to support students. "Ninety percent of our students receive some form of grant or financial assistance as they work toward their career goals," said Lee Housley, Goodwin graduate, trustee, Foundation board member, and Leadership Manager at Hanwha Aerospace. "Through the golf tournament, volunteers from the University - and throughout the community - work to ensure that these students are well prepared to enter the workforce. Most Goodwin students remain in Connecticut, so our efforts not only help them individually but also go toward strengthening the state's economy."
