Goodwin University Funeral Service Program Director Jesse Gomes Appointed to National Funeral Service Practice Board
East Hartford, CT (04/03/2026) — Goodwin University is proud to announce that Jesse M. Gomes, MS, CFSP, director of the University's Funeral Service program, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice (APFSP). Gomes will serve in this role through October 2026.
The Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice is a nationally recognized organization dedicated to promoting excellence, professionalism, and continuing education within the funeral service profession. Its board members play a critical role in advancing professional standards, supporting credentialing initiatives, and guiding the future of funeral service education and practice nationwide.
With nearly 18 years of experience as a funeral director and embalmer at Molloy Funeral Home in West Hartford, CT, Gomes has established deep roots in the field. He has served with the Connecticut Funeral Service Directors Association (CFDA) for 8 years and was named CFDA's executive director and chief executive officer in January 2025. His appointment to the APFSP Board of Directors presents a new leadership opportunity, wherein he can continue shaping the future of mortuary science and practice on a national level.

As director of Goodwin University's Funeral Service program, he has been instrumental in expanding access to funeral service education, including the program's addition of a fully online format designed to support working professionals and nontraditional students.
