Goodwin's "Girls Who Code" Club Stages Inaugural Tech Event
East Hartford, CT (12/13/2021) — On December 10, the Girls Who Code Club at Connecticut River Academy (CTRA), part of Goodwin University's Magnet School System, hosted its inaugural event dedicated to encouraging computer science education at the high school. The "Day of Code" was presented as a modified magnet theme day and engaged all of CTRA's scholars in a variety of learning opportunities focused on the importance of computer science and its impact in today's world.
The event afforded the students opportunities to learn how to navigate our tech-saturated world and understand all that computer science encompasses.
"Technology is transforming every industry on the planet," explained Priya Rajagopal, Technology Education Director at CTRA, "But 60 percent of schools in the U.S. don't teach computer science. Regardless of what our students eventually choose as careers - medicine, business, politics, the arts - knowing how to build technology will give them confidence and a competitive edge. It's time for us to catch up."
"This event is a call to action to inspire interest in computer science, to appreciate experts in the field, and most importantly to advocate for equity and celebrate the accomplishments of our scholars as they learn coding and prepare for their places in society and in the workforce," added JT Foster, principal of CTRA.
