Goodwin College Student Rory Leslie Inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society

2012 May 23

Goodwin College is pleased to announce that Vernon resident Rory Leslie has been inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society.

Leslie was one of 51 students inducted into Goodwin's Beta Rho Delta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honors society for students enrolled in Associate Degree programs. Goodwin held a ceremony on May 11, formally welcoming the students into the chapter.

Goodwin College Provost Ann Clark pinned each inductee and Phi Theta Kappa advisors provided white roses. A crowd of more than 200 family members and friends attended the ceremony.

To be eligible for Phi Theta Kappa, a student must be enrolled in an Associate degree program and have earned at least 12 credits toward their degree. Students like Leslie must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.5 to be admitted into the honors society, and must maintain a minimum 3.25 GPA to continue as a member.

Phi Theta Kappa provides scholarship and leadership opportunities to members.

College Academic Progress Coordinator Sharon Koch, Ed. D., said that the College hopes very soon to have an honors society in place for students enrolled in baccalaureate programs. Goodwin has five Bachelor degree programs in addition to a wide offering of Associate and Certificate programs, and the College is home to the state's largest accredited nursing program.
